Investigational and Neurological uses of HBOT

Historically, hyperbaric medicine grew out of the problems encountered by divers ascending from deep waters. Today, HBOT is approved by the FDA for use in decompression illness, air embolism, blood loss, bone infections, burns, crush injuries, soft-tissue infections, smoke inhalation/carbon monoxide poisoning, intra-cranial abscess, non-healing wounds, gangrene, radiation tissue damage, and skin grafts.

Other conditions are considered "off-label" use of HBOT. There is strong scientific evidence for a number of these conditions that HBOT is effective, more than there is for almost half of all the "approved" indications.
